My name is Allen Atkinson and I directly hire Class A Over the Road drivers and owner operators for several trucking companies. Below are Minimum Qualifications for jobs I directly hire for:

The minimum qualifications cover several companies, each with different hiring standards, its possible you could meet the minimums, but for some reason not qualify for an individual company.  I need a complete application to put it all together.  Always check hiring areas for the job you're interested in.

• Hire as an Experienced Driver: have a valid Class A CDL in the state of your residence AND a minimum of 6 months driving experience in the last 18 months or 12 months driving experience in the past 36 months. Experience can be driving as a solo or team driver (unsupervised by a trainer, training time does not count towards experience), driving a tractor-trailer combination in 3 or more states while subject to DOT regulations (logbooks, hours of service, drug and alcohol testing).
• Hire as Recent Graduate - must have graduated from full 160 hour driving school within 60 days
• Hire through Refresher - must have graduated from a full driving school within 12 months and less than 6 months of OTR experience
  Recent Grads and Refresher Applicants MUST provide a recent copy of their MVR with their application, you can get one here
• Able to pass DOT physical and drug screen
• No pending criminal charges
• No DUI, DWI or OUI in a commercial vehicle ever
• No drug test failure or refusal ever

Within the prior 36 months

• Not more than 12 months unemployment for experienced drivers
• Not more than a combination of 3 moving violations and/or preventable accidents or incidents in 3 years*
• No points suspensions
• No more than 1 major preventable accident in any vehicle**
• No more than 1 serious moving violation in any vehicle***
• Not more than 5 truck driving jobs

Within the prior 60 months

• No license suspension exceeding 12 months
• No reckless driving or DUI convictions (includes other alcohol related misdemeanors)
• No misdemeanor convictions for crimes against a person or theft

Other

• Experienced drivers must be licensed or willing to get cdl in state of residence
• Most Felonies reviewable after 10 years
• No drug convictions including possession within 10 years
• Good work and safety record

* accidents that occurred on a public roadway or incidents that occurred on private property - where the event was ruled preventable and incurred property damage or injury
** major accident includes damage over $5000, roll over, jackknife, rear end, hitting overpass, fatality or significant injury, etc. where the accident was ruled preventable
*** serious moving violations includes speed 15 or over, following too closely, improper lane change, careless driving, etc.

ALL QUALIFICATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO REVIEW

NOTE: The DOT requires that each applicant must undergo a thorough background check before being hired. This includes a review of your MVR in the states in which you have been licensed, a criminal check and verification of your experience and work history at prior driving and non-driving jobs. Before you try to hide an issue its best to understand how the process works. In the event you fail to disclose a material issue on your application, your application can be declined as falsified, even if the company may have hired you had you disclosed the issue. In the event your application is declined as falsified, that company will likely bar you from ever being hired with them in the future.
