Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

My minimum qualifications cover several companies, each with different hiring standards.  Its possible you could meet the minimums, but due to factors such as where you live, not qualify for an individual company.  I will need a complete application to put it all together.  

All Drivers:

  • Valid Class A CDL or will obtain through driving school within 30 days
  • Able to pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • No pending criminal charges or currently on probation
  • No DUI, DWI or OUI in a commercial vehicle ever
  • No DOT drug test failure or refusal ever

Experience Requirements:

  • Recent Grad - graduated from a truck driving school within last 60 days, or
  • Refresher - no experience and graduated from a truck driving school within last 12 months, or
  • Experienced Driver - 3 months over the road tractor trailer in the last 12 months, or
  • 6 months over the road tractor trailer in the last 36 months, or
  • 12 months tractor trailer (local or over the road) in the last 36 months

Within the prior 36 months:

  • Not more than 12 months of unverified unemployment for experienced drivers, not more than 15 months unemployment for new drivers (unemployment benefits count as verified time)
  • Not more than a combination of 4 moving violations and/or preventable minor accidents or incidents*
  • No points suspensions and no more than 12 months of suspension for other reasons
  • No more than 1 preventable accident/incident in last 6 months of driving,
  • No more than 1 serious moving violation in any vehicle***
  • No DUI or other alcohol related misdemeanor convictions

Within the prior 60 months:

  • No license suspension exceeding 12 months
  • No misdemeanor convictions for crimes against a person or theft
  • Not more than 10 driving jobs

Other:

  • Experienced drivers must be licensed in state of residence or willing to get after hire
  • No more than 1 DUI in 10 years
  • Most Felonies reviewable after 10 years
  • No drug convictions including possession while holding a CDL
  • No drug convictions ever for Recent Graduatess of trucking schools
  • Not currently on probation or under court supervision
  • Good work and safety record

* incidents that occurred on private property and accidents that occurred on a roadway where the event was ruled preventable
** major accident includes damage over $5000, roll over, jackknife, rear end, hitting overpass, fatality or significant injury, etc. where the accident was ruled preventable
*** serious moving violations includes speed 15 or over, reckless driving, following too closely, improper lane change in commercial vehicle, etc.

ALL QUALIFICATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO REVIEW

NOTE: The DOT requires that each applicant must undergo a thorough background check before being hired. This includes a review of your MVR in the states in which you have been licensed, a criminal check and verification of your experience and work history at prior driving and non-driving jobs. Before you try to hide an issue its best to understand how the process works. In the event you fail to disclose a material issue on your application, your application can be declined as falsified, even if the company may have hired you had you disclosed the issue. In the event your application is declined as falsified, that company will likely bar you from ever being hired with them in the future.
